The Infected Jim First Day Book One eBook Joseph Zuko Joshua McCullough Reviews

I've been reading Post-Apoc books for 7 years now with hundreds of books in my library. I couldn't get past the 3rd chapter in this book. I'm not going to spoil anything but the lead character couldn't decide whether he's a softy or a martial arts bad ass. Then he jumps from one thing to another in the same paragraph and I'm asking myself if I missed something. Just my opinion but you'll do better looking elsewhere. Two stars for some funny lines.
I must admit I bought this on a whim only to be pulled into Jim's world so fast I was very shocked. If you like zombies, undead unlikely hero's I suggest you get the whole collections yummy will not want to stop. An appliance sales man turned in to a hard core zombie killing machine so that he can get back to his wife and daughter's never knowing what is going to happen next to put him out of his way. Thumbs up Joseph Zuko I was hooked on page one of book one and could not or it Down went straight on to book two, three and prepare- order of four. I was not and am not ready for this to stop.
The action starts from the beginning of the story and continues through the book. It shows just how hard it can be getting places when a zombie apocalyptic event happens. From a normal day to fighting for your life all in an instant. This was just one day in the life of Jim Blakemore as he fights to get home. The story shows how one man faces the challenges that he faces with every decision he makes and the effects it has on him. He felt bad about every kill that he did to survive even though the zombies were trying to kill him. For anyone who wants to read a great zombie book, this is one that I would like to recommend to them. I will eagerly now go on to read the rest of the series. I didn't want to stop reading, but life kept interfering.
Really fun read! Worth every penny. Action packed and fast paced...I happily ate the whole thing up during a 7 hour car ride. This story has a great protagonist and supporting characters that it was easy for me to connect with and root for. The author's down-to-earth writing style is very refreshing. I especially appreciate that the author doesn't rely on the characters making obviously silly mistakes just to move the plot forward. Instead, the main characters make a lot of sound--and not too superhuman--decisions, and anything they do that someone might pull a "Monday morning quarterback" on are relatable (especially for how difficult it would probably be to think clearly under the severe stress of a zombie apocalypse). All the necessary hardknocks and gore of a zombie story are there. At the same time, the author writes with a lot of heart...all the emotions most of us could imagine feeling under these circumstances are there--unabashed, straightforward, and realistic--without feeling like corny cheap shots or "trauma porn." I immediately purchased the second book after finishing this one, and can't wait to get started on it (will prob sneak a few pages in right after I finish this review). Many thanks to Zuko!
Hilarious!

I started reading the first 3 pages of this book and I just stopped and bought it in an audible version... loved it. I laughed so hard, and this author brings up issues of the zombie apocalypse that we all thought of but could never give voice to it. The nursing home issue.... the verbal-visual of old peeps with colostomy bags.... the brutal, heartbreaking scene with the schoolchildren and the father oh nevermind... do not want to give spoilers.

I went on to buy the 2nd book in an audible format and was just as pleased with that. Although it didn't have the real comic touch that Jim has then again... men are more bathroom orientated to toilet jokes.

Very funny, heartwarming, heartbreaking and bittersweet moments. There are so many "moments" that we have all done. The chewing of the fingernail and spitting out a chunk... omg... we all know of those peeps. So many "bullseye" descriptions. The vomit scenes... omg..... seriously this is worth buying.... buy it enjoy it.
Well, I see that this is the writer's first book, so I'll be a little easier on him this time, but I will be a tough judge on his next book. I must say, I was actually quite impressed by this book. The character's, especially Jim, are very likable, and engaging. The funny moments help to soften some of the intensity. Overall, this is some great action linked with the emotions of trying to protect your family. Something we can all relate to. I will definitely be checking out book #2 when it is available. Also, the cover art is fantastic. It definitely drew my attention. Keep up the good work, Joe.
Look, I think it takes balls to publish a book by yourself, so I gave it 1 star. This is poorly written and really needs the help of a professional editor. It has the feel of something written by a teenager in high school. The first sign is the first sentence describing high five-ing his wife after sex. I think he mentioned it was his wife 4 times in the first 2 pages. The description of scenes are poor. The mental image you get is lacking any interesting detail. Hey, I think it's great that you are into the zombie genre, but I couldn't get through the 2nd chapter. Just a note, I've read hundreds of self published zombie books. This guy should stick to just being a zombie fan and not a writer. I wish i could have my $12 bucks back, but hey I give all of these books a shot and sometimes they are not what you had hoped..
Excellent book! I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. This book is action filled.Humorous at times with a constant focus on making it home to family.
